Boston Marathon

A huge SADRC turn out for the Easter Bank Holiday Boston Marathon. 35 orange and black runners crossed the start line line in blissful sunshine in the centre of Boston. 3 different races started in the morning: Boston Marathon, Boston Half and Boston 5km Fun Run!

The Marathon. 26.2 miles through Boston Fens. Boston Marathon is a notorious flat and fast course with runners coming from all over the UK. On the way to cheer every along, we met a lady who was supporting her husband all the way from Bath! Privileged to have this run on our doorstep, a fast flat but can be a tough lonely course.

Mark Sands ran under sub 3 hours finishing in 39th place but 3rd in his age category. Richard Burrows just fluttered into the 3hr mark with a great run time of 3hr04 finishing 14th in his age category. Brian Darrington crossed the line with a huge PB and a qualifying time for London Marathon in 3h08. Samantha Fox (4hr33) crossed the line for the first SADRC lady followed by Louise Darrington who again ran an impressive PB race, a 44 minute PB with a finishing time of 4hr41 (even managed to bag herself a half marathon PB at the same time). Emmajean Hearn finished with a time of 4hr44, followed by Dawn Allan (who had covid just 3 weeks ago after months of training) and Eleanor Marsh in a time of 5hr06. Again, another PB for Dawn! Excellent running Marathon Runners!

The Half Marathon has fantastic numbers with so many fantastic running times from our members. Paul Jackson crossed the line for SADRC first, with a 2nd in age category and 17th overall in a time of 1hr21. Giles Favell came in 2nd for SADRC, running a very strong race after ankle surgery in a time of 1hr30. Phillip Weaver chased behind in a time of 1hr31.

For the ladies new club runner, Jessica Gilbert crossed the line for SADRC first in a time of 1hr47 collecting a PB along the way! Amy Mitchell crossed second for SADRC, 2 weeks after running Manchester Marathon with as time of 1hr52. Amy Lambley was third with an amazing PB running under the sub 2 hour mark, not just running under, but smashing the sub 2 hour mark in a time of 1hr52. All that training has paid off a ran a huge 10 minute PB.

Mentions go to Jane Martin finished with a sub 2hr time in 1hr57. Again another PB for Jane. Jane might be running every day for well over a year now, but is getting stronger by the day. Andy Shelton who is back running a 1hr35 half marathon time after ankle surgery. Darren Fissenden who smashed out a PB running time of 1hr36. Leo Weaver who when last ran a half marathon in a time of 2hr22 ran today in 1hr52. Dean Edwards ran a PB time of 1hr 51. James Willis who ran his first race for SADRC finishing in 1hr50 and 1st in his age category which is fantastic!

The Boston 5km Fun Run was represented by Tracey Edwards. Tracey finished in 31 minutes and 3rd in her age category!

Boston Marathon is a very special race for us all, and always well attended. Its fantastic to see so many club runners crossing the finishing line and still smiling.
