Mark’s and Maurice’s ultra amazing weekends! Mark Lyon took on the Peak District Ultra Challenge this weekend. A continuous 100km ultra marathon across the Peak District. Mark completed the challenge in a fantastic 13hours 56min coming 59th out of the 521 entries. Mark said: “The terrain was beautiful but brutal, so steep you couldn’t run or down some of it. Despite that I loved every minute and met some amazing people along the way."
Also taking on an Ultra, this time the Race to the Stones Ultra, was Maurice Tompkins. The route is 100km along the oldest path in Britain, The Ridgeway and finishes at the iconic Avebury Stone Circle. Morris completed his Ultra in a fantastic 25hours 49mins, proving in the process that age is just a number as he is over 70!
Meanwhile, back in the slightly less undulating Lincolnshire, was the Spilsby Show 6-mile race. There was a fantastic club turnout of 23 runners with five winning trophies.
First back for the club and winning the race was Mark Sands, in 33.37 taking home the trophies for first place and first in his age group. Next back for the club was Darren Westen 41.10 and Andy Shelton 42.56 who, along with Mark, won the men’s team trophy.
First female back for the club was Gail Davies 47.04, smashing her previous PB by 4 minutes and also bagging the trophy for her age category. Also winning her age category was Sam Fox finishing in a fantastic 55.27.
Other finishers were: Martin Chapman 44.00, Ian Kocko 47.26, Leanne Rickett 47.27, Lee Cook 48.17, Guy Hatten 48.58, Richard Johnson 49.44, Chris Hurst 49.52, Jeff Shelton 50.26, Gary Dembrey 51.52, Shawn Thomas 53.37, Natalie Mitchell 54.58, Kate Howard 55.19, Sarah Smith 55.57, Sarah Thomas 57.47, Becky Hobson 59.05, Ian Walker 59.21, Noel Bradley 1.01.00 and Helena Shelton 1.06.00.
